ProductCamp Vancouver 2024

Welcome!

This year at ProductCamp we will have 3 types of sessions:

  1. Presentations (structured sharing of ideas or information to the audience)

  2. Panels

  3. Workshops

To submit a session: check to see if your idea is already submitted; if not, go for it!

Creativity and diversity of backgrounds is very welcome!
Please select the type of session you are proposing, write a session title, description and a short blurb about the value you bring to the topic.

To vote: click on the appropriate button for a pre-submitted session that interests you.

You have 10 votes in total, ideally distributed across the different session types.
You can always redistribute your votes if a great session gets submitted after you’ve used all 10.

How it works:

  • Mon, Apr 1: Voting closes and the most popular sessions will be shortlisted

  • Tue, Apr 2: Session leaders notified via email

  • Fri, Apr 5: Schedule is finalized and shared with participants

Don’t forget to register to attend at: https://www.productcampvancouver.org

See you at ProductCamp Vancouver on April 6th!

#PCV24

Please note:

  • Anonymous sessions will be deleted

  • Each potential session leader is limited to two session proposals

  • Ideas that are deemed inappropriate for ProductCamp will be flagged &/or deleted

Or better yet, imagine that not only are you set the vision, you are also asked to create and manage a product that drives the desired organizational change forward, because when progress is easily made tangible, it acts as an effective object of…

  9. Dive with me through prioritizing the customer needs in the technical world.

In this session, Luis will go through some foundational knowledge to dive into product management in a data world.
With real-world examples, we will answer questions like:

How do data teams drive innovation?

What metrics should a PM for APIs or data transformation be looking at?

Do I need to have a programming background to transition into Data PM? (Hint: I don't have one).

In the world of LLMs, what's the role of a data PM?

    Meet and connect with me

Luis Espinal's experience includes different verticals that…

  10. In my early days as a Product Manager, PMs main build partners were primarily developers. Over time, this group has expanded to include roles like data scientists, data engineers, product analysts, ML engineers, knowledge engineers, and conversational designers, among others.

In this presentation, I'll provide an overview of different types of AI products a mental model for partnering with these diverse roles throughout the product lifecycle. We'll cover various AI products, including:

    • Predictive ML products (e.g., applicant evaluation, targeting)
    • ML Platforms: which provide infrastructure for hosting and operationalizing hundreds of ML models
    • Generative AI products (e.g., content summarization)
    • Semantic Search

  12. I first started building with LLMs with GPT-2 for millions of jobseekers at Indeed. Now, I'm shipping GPT-4 (and more) products for millions of creators at vidIQ.

With 4 years of LLM experience in B2C and about a dozen LLM product launches under my belt, I will share my biggest regrets that I hope other PMs can avoid. Where possible, I'll pull out AB test results. I also hope to make this interactive so we can all learn from one another!

Here are my biggest regrets that I will go into more detail about:

  13. Companies have access to large volumes of user-generated text. It is a mostly unrealized corporate asset. Advances in AI over the past few years can leverage text to make an ~immediate~ impact on the bottom line. Text is now a first-class citizen in the product development life cycle!

If you care about any of these:
    • What can you do with text? Why would you even care?
    • What is the state of the art? Performance? Accuracy? Usefulness? Players?
    • Can user-generated text be used to build a better product? (Yes.) How?
    • Business case? Scenarios? Use cases? Danger zones?

  14. Organizations like to collect a lot of user-generated text... Duh?!... Really?

I bring some examples: reviews, feedback, surveys, interviews, support interactions, chat, call centre, sales notes, call transcripts. There's more.

Users (I mean, like, your customers?) have an implicit expectation that someone will read their feedback and that it will be taken into account. Is it?

In this interactive session, we will share with each other our experiences, success and scars dealing with lots of user-generated content in the Product life cycle. Bring them!

Manuel will break the ice, move the conversation through the topics below, will keep an eye…

  15. There is a sea change happening in Product and CXO Leadership: CPOs and Product Executives are starting to offer Fractional Product Services.

Is this just temporary because of the economy?
    Does it work?
Have any panel experts done it?
Is this just the next phase of the gig economy?
Is it fullfilling (both for CPOs and for orgs)?
Do CPOs need to be full-time in orgs?
What does a Fractional CPO bring that a f/t CPO doesn't?

Full Disclosure: This panel idea is something I'm personally interested in as the founder of fractional.pm. I'm a Fractional CMO for non-profits, and…

  17. Adapt or Die: Supercharge Your Career in a Post-ZIRP World

The last 24 months have seen a seismic shift in the PM profession. We have watched the end of cheap cash, shrinking product orgs, folks we respect questioning the function's utility (à la Airbnb), threats of obsolescence from new tech, and an over-supply of credentialed candidates at all levels.

Whether you are leveling up in a large org, guiding a startup through a storm, building businesses as a consultant, or hunting for your next role, this session can help you:

    • Understand what has changed (and what hasn't)
    • Avoid 4 strategic…

  20. In this session, I'll share the challenges and learnings from a recent data product I built to explore the intricacies of utilizing Google Analytics 4 (GA4). With the ever-evolving landscape of digital analytics and the shutting down of GA3, it was paramount for my 4400+ users to adapt to this new product. GA4 offers a suite of powerful tools and features to extract meaningful insights and drive strategic decisions; however, there are unknowns associated with every data set, and GA4 was no different. This session is designed for product professionals seeking to harness the potential of an unknown data source…
