Individual Journeys in AI
We have assembled a fantastic group of panelists who will share how they have learned about AI, hoping to inspire others to dive deeper into this fast-evolving technology. The format will be the following:
Panelists share their individual journeys in AI, including the following:
1) How they got started
a) Challenges they faced along the way and how they overcame them
b) Tips for others to start
2) Open Q&A for the remainder of the session
The target audience is anyone and everyone who is interested in learning more about AI no matter what level your knowledge is currently at.
Panelists include the following people:
Paul Save is the founder of the Platinum Sponsor Cascadia Data Science Institute (datascienceinstitute.ai) which is introducing an 11-month Artificial Intelligence Product Leader CertificateTM (AIPLC)™, which aims to become the gold standard for AI PM education. He is also an expert on the Mirror Committee "ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 42 - Artificial intelligence" to help establish international standards for AI. He entered his first Kaggle (machine learning) competition in 2016 and has been a PM on data science projects in various industries.
Ryan Smith is a product leader who has built AI products as founder and CEO of FTSY (computer vision/footwear), PM at Shopify, and currently product strategist working with AI teams. Ryan's early passion for data modeling started in Physics and continued through an MBA at UBC.
Benita Raichandani is currently a Senior Product Manager in the Analytics organization at Workday. Prior to this she was managing the data platform needed to build machine learning and data science features in the Machine Learning Org at Workday.
Samuel Segun is an AI/ML product manager with experience leading B2B and B2C product teams, machine learning developers, and data scientists to operationalize Responsible AI. He earned a Ph.D. degree in computational ethics from the University of Johannesburg, where he served as an adjunct assistant professor. He has also led responsible AI research projects at the Stellenbosch University School for Data Science and Computational Thinking. Samuel currently leads the United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute as its AI Innovation and Technology Policy Consultant, a role requiring the development of AI tools/products to assist INTERPOL in anti-money laundry and fraud investigation.
Sumant Gandhi is a product leader with expertise in platform development, API integrations, and developer portals, with recent ventures into AI initiatives. Currently, Sumant is dedicated to expanding his AI proficiency, delving into the fundamentals of existing models, their architectures, and their intricate applications in product development.

"William Joe Baldwin serves as a lead data product manager at Rakuten, Japan's eCommerce juggernaut, with 70+ additional services, which collectively engage 30% of the nation's population as MAU. Since 2017, he has been leading and engineering data-driven initiatives, including such as insights dashboards and predictive models. In 2018, the promotion targeting model he developed for NTT Docomo's promotion department significantly enhanced their advertising efficiency, quadrupling the effectiveness of the previous targeting system and resulting in a savings of 15 million yen per advertisement."
