Drinking Our Own Champagne: Managing Your Career with Product Management Principles
As a Product person, our North Star is to foster outcomes for our users, and how we work as product managers are designed to do exactly that. This philosophy guides our every action, shaping strategies that propel products to success. Yet, how often do we turn these proven methodologies inward, applying them to the very architects of these products - ourselves? In this presentation, I will take you through every step of managing your career like managing a product - going through product discovery, strategy, roadmapping and more. We’ll apply techniques we’ve learned from product management to optimize networking strategy, resumes, artifacts in preparation for informational interviews & job interviews, as well as roadmaps for career progression & growth.
Drawing from my years of experience teaching product management and mentoring dozens of product folks, I will use a combination of practical tips, stories, product frameworks, short case studies, career artifacts, and Q&A to help you achieve the following outcomes:
Navigating the intricate dance between job, career, and calling, and how to weave them into a cohesive vision.
Mastering "continuous discovery" to remain perpetually primed for upcoming career opportunities and advancements.
Learning how to craft a personalized career journey blueprint, complete with vision, strategy, roadmap, and a dynamic backlog to guide your journey.
Whether you're a seasoned product manager, a newly minted product manager, a product leader, a product executive, or you're someone looking to break into product, you’ll leave the session with motivation, techniques and tools that you can start utilizing the next day.
