ProductCamp Vancouver 2023

Welcome!

This year at ProductCamp we will have 3 types of sessions:

  1. Presentations (structured sharing of ideas or information to the audience)

  2. Panels

  3. Workshops

To submit a session: check to see if your idea is already submitted, if not, go for it.

Creativity and diversity of backgrounds is very welcome!
Please select the type of session you are proposing, write a session title, description and a short blurb about the value you bring to the topic.

To vote: click on the appropriate button for a pre-submitted session that interests you.

You have 10 votes in total, ideally distributed across the different session types.
You can always redistribute your votes if a great session gets submitted after you’ve used all 10.

How it works:

  • Mon, Feb 27: The most popular session will be shortlisted

  • Tue, Feb 28: Session leaders notified via email

  • Sat, March 4: Schedule is finalized and shared with participants

Don’t forget to register to attend at: https://www.productcampvancouver.org

See you at ProductCamp Vancouver!

Please note:

  • Anonymous sessions will be deleted

  • Each potential session leader is limited to two session proposals

  • Ideas that are deemed inappropriate for ProductCamp will be flagged &/or deleted

In this talk I will introduce you to our Product Thinking Playbook and share how we built a 0-1 product development curriculum to create more effective product teams company wide.
The lessons we learned will set you up to inspire the next generation of product thinkers in your org, and scale up your influence as a PM.

  2. In most organizations, teams have to plan long-term. Products are complex and can take many months, even years, to build. Partners or customers need time to plan for and adapt to new product functionality based on committed dates often many months in the future. Legislation changes have to be addressed by specific, non-negotiable dates. There are many reasons why product development may have to be planned and committed to a long time in the future. How do we reconcile the short-term 'today' view of agile delivery teams with the long-term strategic needs of stakeholders?

  4. In 1985 Huey Lewis sang about the Power of Love and while love is powerful, it’s not exactly the vehicle in which PMs succeed in their jobs. A much greater vehicle is the ability to capture and understand context in order to more successfully be persuasive, be empathetic, and to better achieve your goals.

PMs are frequently asked to put themselves into the shoes of their customers and to see things from their perspective yet not only can that be a struggle but understanding stakeholders and peers are often an even greater struggle leading to adversarial relationships loaded with conflict…

  12. Let's talk about building platform products.
    - What is a platform capability?
    - Why should we staff a platform team?
    - How do platforms grow, evolve, and capture value?
    - What are some core principles for evaluating a platform opportunity?
    - How can platforms investments unlock leverage and optionality for your organization?

The world's most powerful businesses are platforms leveraging ecosystem opportunities. "Leverage" is the key word: a platform can help you win big, or sink you. How do you navigate that fine line?

Platform product management is a low-visibility high-impact role. You don't build user-facing features directly. Instead, you're…
